MHKW Leverkusen
The thermal treatment of more than 200,000 tonnes of waste per year takes place in the Leverkusen waste-to-energy plant (MHKW) in three incineration boilers on feed grates. The energy released during waste incineration is utilised for the production of district heating and electricity according to the principle of combined heat and power generation.
Both forms of energy are fed into the public grid in Leverkusen. The waste-to-energy plant thus combines two key aspects: waste disposal safety and environmental compatibility.
